Governors Sanwo-Olu, Makinde and Abdulrazaq Leading in Lagos, Oyo and Kwara Gubernatorial Polls

According to reports, the incumbent governors of Lagos, Oyo and Kwara States, are currently leading in the gubernatorial polls in their respective states. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced it will hold supplementary elections in some polling units across five different Nigerian states, namely Kano, Lagos, Plateau, Rivers, and Sokoto, on Sunday, March 19, 2023. PDP Wins 13, APC Wins 9 Seats in Edo State House of Assembly Election

In the just-concluded Edo State House of Assembly election on Saturday, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) won thirteen seats while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won nine seats. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP won in Akoko-Edo I, Akoko-Edo II, Egor, Esan Central, Esan North-East I, Esan North-East II, Esan South-East, Esan West, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Oredo East, Ovia North-East I, and Uhunmwode constituencies. Nigerians Reel as INEC Releases Presidential Election Results on IReV Platform

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally uploaded the results of Nigeria's presidential elections, which were held three weeks ago, on the iRev portal. The results were released on Saturday, March 19, 2023. According to reports, the iRev platform was specifically designed to enhance the transparency of Nigeria's electoral process by enabling real-time electronic transmission of election results. However, the iRev portal encountered technical challenges and delayed the transmission of the presidential election results for three weeks, creating tension and public outcry nationwide. Central Bank of Nigeria Withdraws Naira Notes to Address Scarcity

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced that it is removing about N2.3 trillion from circulation in a bid to address the scarcity of naira notes in the country. However, this move may lead to the persistence of naira scarcity, according to some experts. The CBN issued a circular on Thursday, stating that it had decided to discontinue the production of the N5, N10, and N20 naira notes, while simultaneously increasing the production of the N50, N100, N200, and N500 denominations, with the goal of promoting efficiency in the printing of naira notes. "The N5, N10, and N20 denominations will no longer be printed, and we will be increasing the production of the N50, N100, N200, and N500 notes. We want to assure the public that the value of the naira is still intact," the CBN said in the circular. Aisha Binani Becomes First Female Governor-Elect in Nigeria- Adamawa

Aisha Binani emerges the winner of the Adamawa gubernatorial elections. She makes history as the second female Governor in Nigeria, the first being Dame Virginia Etiaba of Anambra state, but the first female to contest and win in a gubernatorial election. The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani,was in a close race with the current governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Fintiri, in the ongoing Adamawa State gubernatorial election. Binani was declared the winner, and become Nigeria’s first woman to be elected governor of a state. Binani won in a tightly contested election with just a little above six thousand votes higher than her opponent.

Xi Jinping Scheduled to Visits Russia Next Week

Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to make a state visit to Moscow next week, where he will discuss strategic cooperation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. The visit will also include the signing of "important bilateral documents".  China has sought to be a neutral party in Russia's isolation regarding the Ukraine conflict, urging Moscow and Kyiv to come to a diplomatic resolution.
